Pictou Wins in Overtime 6-5 Against Riverview Blues
Pictou County Crushers and Riverview Blues opened up Day 3 action at the Bell Aliant Peewee AAA Atlantics at CBS Arena in Newfoundland and Labrador and thrilled the early-risers with a tournament gem. Pictou built a 5-2 lead deep into the second period before Riverview came storming back with three unanswered to tie the contest at 5-5 late in the final frame and send it to overtime. A five minute four-on-four sudden victory overtime period only lasted 25 seconds when the Crushers executed a quick transition off a Blues rebound to eventually see Canning rip it top corner on Connor McGee to win it 6-5 for the Nova Scotia side. Canning’s four goal-five point performance earned him Player of the Game honors. Jonah Jelley, with a pair of goals and a strong end-to-end game got the nod for the Blues. After eight games of round robin action, Pictou sit at two regulation wins, one overtime win and one regulation loss for eight points, while Riverview remain winless after four games and hold one point in the standings with an overtime loss under the tournament’s three-point system. tp
